Almost Complete: Rebuilt Metal Building in San Jose
A downtown metal building, which was destroyed in a four-alarm fire last November in San Jose, will soon be open for business.
The owner is Dan Krieges, who said the construction of the new commercial steel building should be complete and ready for tenants to move in by mid-November.
"We're really glad we're going to be back in business," Krieges said. "We feel bad that we've had that plywood up for so long, but we'll be open again soon. We're moving along at a reasonable pace right now in getting the building finished."
The building, which housed a cleaners, clothing store and design shop, was destroyed on November 2 after a boiler flue pipe in the attic of the cleaners failed.
Plans for the new metal building were submitted in early April and the permits to begin construction were granted in August.
"Even though it took some time, we felt we had real good cooperation from the city," Krieges said. "Towns always like businesses up and running-it's called sales tax."
Construction began at the end of August; the roof and the steel building frame has been put in place and Krieges said the walls will go up soon. Although some slight changes have been made to the design of the building, Krieges said it will look pretty much the same as before.
When the steel building reopens, all tenants except The Kitchen Enthusiast will be returning.
